«Im Alter, ja.» Andrea setzte sich, griff sich mit zwei Fingern eine Frühlingsrolle. Sie schmeckte frisch und knusprig.

«Ich fürchtete anfangs, ich müsse mit Stäbchen essen», sagte Robert.

«We use sticks only for noodles», erklärte Ning.

Andrea wunderte sich, dass er das scharfe Essen überhaupt antastete. Er behauptete sogar, es schmecke ihm, obwohl es ihm Schweissperlen auf die Stirn trieb.

«Robert has told me a lot about you», sagte Ning. «You are a mountain guide, aren’t you.» Ihr Englisch war gut.

«Yes, I am.»

«Oh, I would very much like to see the mountains. The goats, the meadows, where Heidi lives.»

«I show you the mountains», sagte Robert. «We make trips. See Matterhorn, Jungfraujoch, Säntis.» Er trank hastig, schenkte sich Wein nach, obwohl das Glas noch halb voll war.

«Heidi is only a fiction», warf Andrea hin und bereute es sogleich.

Doch Ning strahlte sie an. «I saw Heid in the movies in Thailand. It was so terrific and I dreamed to see the mountains once in my life.»

«I show you the mountains if you like», sagte Andrea. «The real mountains.»
