SUMMARY

Mutual respect among professionals is critical in the work environment. Students begin to learn effective collaboration while working in groups. The World Health Organization (2010) stated Interprofessional Education (IPE) occurs when students from two or more professions learn about, from, and with each to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes. This interdisciplinary collaboration included three different Graduate programs from the College of Health and Social Services. This was a weeklong assignment which was implemented into three different online courses with students from three different disciplines in a collaborative education model. The Interprofessional Education (IPE) introduction week occurred in the Fall 2019 semester and included students from the Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP), Masters of Social Work (MSW), and Masters of Public Health (MPH) programs. This was an interprofessional and interdisciplinary learning experience that attempted to enhance affective and intellectual abilities, increased understanding of multiple perspectives, encouraged greater appreciation for ambiguity, and improved capacity for more enriched creative thinking. Methods: Students were divided into 12 groups, composed of students from each discipline. There were three main assignments: first, students introduced themselves and then responded to four other students’ introductions; second, students were asked to watch the Future Crunch video, The World is not on Fire (2019) regarding global and social determinates of health; after completion the students were asked to post a 3-4 minute long video, via FlipGrid, their own thoughts, impressions, and other comments and then watch students’ videos responding to four other students; third, students completed the 10-item Qualtrics survey.
